About Main Street
Historic Downtown Kilgore
It's more than just buildings on a street, it's about Community!
The Kilgore Main Street program works to enhance downtown vibrancy and historic preservation by implementing guidelines set forth by the National Trust Main Street Center's Four Point Approach, a national revitalization movement currently in place in more than 2000 communities across the nation.
Through this Four Point Approach, Kilgore Main Street strives to maintain and improve:
ORGANIZATION: Building partnerships among the various groups in downtown by establishing a strong, committed volunteer base that are staunch advocates for our downtown district and an improved quality of life in Kilgore.
PROMOTION: Creating memorable experiences by focusing on unique shopping, dining and quality of life services found within our downtown by capturing the essence of our authentic community assets and history.
DESIGN: Focusing on the physical elements of downtown such as storefronts, signs and landscaping and public spaces; targeting infrastructure and building improvements that lay the ground work for a physical transformation that will be both functional and attractive; advocating for the preservation and protection of community architectural treasures.
ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING: identifies new market opportunities for the downtown area; redefines the district's niche in the marketplace and sharpens the competitiveness of existing businesses, while nurturing new enterprises that respond to today's consumer needs.
